Types of Logical Reasoning Questions

There are four main types of Logical Reasoning questions that you will encounter on the LSAT:

  1. Main Point Questions: These questions ask you to identify the main point of the passage.
  2. Inference Questions: These questions ask you to draw inferences from the passage.
  3. Assumption Questions: These questions ask you to identify the assumptions that the author is making.
  4. Flaw Questions: These questions ask you to identify the flaw in the author's argument.

How to Answer Logical Reasoning Questions

Here are some tips on how to answer Logical Reasoning questions:

  1. Read the passage carefully. Make sure that you understand the main point of the passage and the author's argument.
  2. Identify the type of question that you are being asked. This will help you to focus your answer.
  3. Answer the question in your own words. Do not simply repeat the language of the passage.
  4. Be specific and provide evidence to support your answer. Do not make vague or general statements.

Practice Test

Here is a practice test that you can use to test your skills.

Passage:

The death penalty is a cruel and unusual punishment that has no place in a civilized society. It is a barbaric practice that has been shown to be ineffective in deterring crime. In fact, studies have shown that the death penalty actually increases the murder rate. The death penalty is also a very expensive punishment. It costs more to execute a prisoner than it does to keep them in prison for life. For all of these reasons, the death penalty should be abolished.

Questions:

1. What is the main point of the passage? 2. What is one argument that the author makes against the death penalty? 3. What is one assumption that the author is making? 4. What is a flaw in the author's argument?

**Answers:**

1. The main point of the passage is that the death penalty is a cruel and unusual punishment that has no place in a civilized society. 2. One argument that the author makes against the death penalty is that it is ineffective in deterring crime. 3. One assumption that the author is making is that the death penalty is a barbaric practice. 4. One flaw in the author's argument is that they do not provide any evidence to support their claim that the death penalty increases the murder rate.
